Traditionally 4”x4” tiles were used on walls and most floor tile was 12”x12”. However that has changed in the last 10 years or so. In modern construction small tiles are rarely used but still popular in a lot of applications. Lately, many designers have been using big size tiles 16”x16” and 16”x24” for bathrooms, hallways and living rooms.

There are wall covering tiles and flooring tiles, one thing you should consider is that sometimes floor tile can be used on walls but wall tile cannot be used on floors.
